The anthology Terror Tuesday: Extreme draws inspiration from horror stories shared by listeners of a radio show true accounts that might make you question why you’d subject yourself to such unsettling tales. However, watching Girl Next Door didn’t really make me feel anxious or urge me to secure my doors. Perhaps it’s because I’m not a man, and I’d assume this film is aimed at those who struggle to manage their desires. In any case, Girl Next Door features Nat Kitcharit, an actor recognized internationally from Delete. Nat portrays “Bird,” a man who has recently moved into a new apartment with the help of a friend, only to experience a series of unsettling events.

Horror anthologies offer a unique range of experiences, and Netflix’s latest Thai horror series is no exception, featuring eight distinct tales of terror with each episode running for about 45 minutes. The series begins with Our Little Sister, about a woman mourning her sister’s tragic death. This is followed by Wedding Dress, where a new seamstress discovers unsettling secrets in her workplace. An Ode to My Family depicts a family moving into a house with dark secrets, while The Vow involves a couple revealing hidden truths to avoid a vengeful goddess.

Spectral Class follows a teacher drawn into occult activities, Girl Next Door centers on a drug-addicted man encountering disturbing situations after receiving a strange note, and Dear Granny explores the unsettling return of a grandmother who seems changed. Finally, Viral Curse shows a mother’s struggle to protect her daughter from a radio program’s eerie influence.

Despite its potential, Terror Tuesday: Extreme falls short compared to past anthologies with more intense scares. Its eight episodes, varying from mildly creepy to disappointingly dramatic, may leave viewers feeling bored and unfulfilled. While some moments of terror and emotional impact are present, the series often relies on predictable and repetitive plots, lacking fresh and shocking elements. However, the actors deliver strong performances that enhance the viewing experience, even if the series doesn’t fully deliver on its horror promise.

Why Doesn’t Bird Pick Up His Mom’s Calls? 

In episode 6 of Terror Tuesday: Extreme, titled “Girl Next Door,” the story follows Bird, who has just moved into apartment 407 with the help of his friend Kie. Upon arriving at the building, Bird has a disturbing vision of a woman falling from the sky and feeling her blood on his face, only to realize it was a hallucination. He frequently avoids answering calls from his mother, which concerns Kie, who also questions why Bird left his job to trade online when he could have done both. It’s revealed that Bird is struggling financially, having borrowed money from Kie.

Bird soon discovers that a beautiful woman lives in the apartment next door. That night, after Kie leaves, Bird takes drugs, perhaps to help him sleep. Under the influence, he hears a woman showering and talking to him in his apartment. When he investigates, he finds no one there, only a note with bizarre instructions: he should not be alarmed by strange noises and should make it appear as if no one lives in his apartment after midnight. Though he finds the note odd, he initially dismisses it. Later, when he hears banging on his door at night, he becomes frightened, turns off all the lights, and follows the note’s instructions.

Bird avoids his mother’s calls, knowing he’s disappointing her. His drug use and deteriorating condition are likely reasons he prefers not to engage with her, possibly to avoid her criticism and to momentarily feel better about himself.

What Happened In Apartment 407? 

The next day, Bird knocks on the door of flat 406, even though it’s locked. To his surprise, the door opens slightly, and he sees a woman inside. When he tells the security guard that someone is trapped in the room, the guard reacts as if Bird is crazy. Bird then tells Kie, who says he’ll ask the previous owner of the house if something strange is going on. Meanwhile, Bird tries to enter the house through the balcony but finds nothing unusual. The two apartments look quite identical, and Bird suddenly wakes up on the toilet seat, realizing he was dreaming the whole thing.

On the other hand, Kie meets the owner of flat 406. He and his wife, who was a nurse, moved into flat 406 years ago. When he saw the girl next door, he was immediately attracted to her. The girl, Jane, and the man end up sleeping together, and his wife finds out. They leave the apartment, but before he goes, he slips Jane a note with a warning. This is the same note Bird received when he arrived at the apartment. It was meant to protect Jane from the man’s wife. However, the guilt was too much for Jane to handle, and she ended up taking her own life by jumping off the balcony.

What Happens To Bird? 

At night, Bird finds himself trapped in the apartment, with the door locked from the outside. He is confronted with new rules, such as avoiding the water in the apartment and not trying to escape. If someone he knows visits, he must not make eye contact or follow them. The twist reveals that Bird is actually dead, and his mother is performing his final rituals, which involve using water for cleansing and calling out to him. Bird remains unaware of his death, believing he is still in the apartment.

The episode seems to serve as an anti-drug message, suggesting that Bird’s drug use led to his isolation from his family and distorted his perception of reality. His inability to distinguish between reality and hallucinations ultimately traps him in a nightmarish situation.

In the ending, Bird’s mother enters the apartment to say her final goodbye, but Bird, now led to the same fate as Jane, cannot reach her. He had previously jumped from the balcony of room 407. As his mother turns to speak to him, her friend informs her that Bird is in heaven, though it’s clear he remains trapped in the apartment. This implies that anyone who moves into the apartment may suffer the same fate.

Final Thoughts

Terror Tuesday: Extreme may not live up to its name, but it has some standout episodes. While many episodes lack true scares or thrills, a few are emotionally impactful. Although there are scarier shows available, this series offers an entertaining experience, making it a good choice for watching with friends and family.
